Goers Cut Down Jail Birds, 6-3
|
Newark designated hitter Ronald Sanders was sensational. He went 2 for 2 with a home run and 2 walks. He drove in 2 runs and scored once, but it wasn't enough to rally his team to a win. Temple beat the Jail Birds, 6-3. Sanders was named the player of the game despite the loss. Temple reliever Goro Ota was credited with the win, to go to 1-0. Botol Soverosa took the loss for Newark. Picking up the save was John Cosman, his 6th.
Also making an impact was second baseman Ryan Lewry, who drilled a run-scoring double in the top of the second inning for the Goers. For the game, Lewry went 2 for 4 with a double. He drove in 2 runs.
"Winning is the only thing that really matters," Lewry told the Temple News. "If you can win without even breaking a sweat, more power to you."
Temple, now 8-13, is off to a slow start.
