|
The Peoria Caterpillars got a stellar effort from pitcher Pedro Gravina, helping Peoria score a 5-2 win over the visiting Detroit Death Stars. In 8 innings, Gravina surrendered 5 hits, while striking out 4 and walking 1. He allowed 2 runs. The Caterpillars saw their record improve to 50-61.
Niigata, Japan-born Norihisa Iwamoto came through in the clutch. In the bottom of the fourth, with a runner on 1st and the Caterpillars trailing 2-1, he hit a 2-run home run to center to put Peoria on top.
"It was just a matter of executing," said Peoria manager Larry Pittman.
