Canadians Fall Short, 5-4, at Philadelphia
|
The Philadelphia Freedom did just enough to secure a 5-4 victory over the Vancouver Canadians at The Bell. Nobody did more than pitcher Marcus Clifton, who captured player of the game honors. Clifton, now 9-10, was the winner. In 6.2 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 7, walking 1, and allowing 2 earned runs. Philadelphia is now 52-51, while Vancouver is 56-48.
The Freedom beat the Canadians in part due to timely hitting. Case in point: the two-out home run Hayden Bentley produced in the bottom of the fifth. Batting against Vancouver pitcher Aaron Dilnot, Bentley gave his team a 4-2 lead when he hit a 2-run home run.
"I'll probably toss and turn tonight," Vancouver manager John Harrison said following the tough loss.
