Canadians Shut Out Raptors

The Vancouver Canadians got a magnificent performance from pitcher Michael Smith, who stifled the Omaha offense en route to a 2-0 Canadians win at Anchorage Municipal Stadium. Smith went 8.1 innings to notch the win. He scattered 5 hits, walked 1, and struck out 2. His record improves to 5-3. Steve Strickland closed it out for his 4th save.
In the top of the fourth inning, first baseman Aftab Mengal came through big-time for the Canadians. With Vancouver leading 1-0, he belted a solo home run.
"We can always improve and get better, but we're feeling pretty confident after that win," said Mengal.
Vancouver now owns a record of 48-36.
