Death Stars Get Road Win, 7-3
|
Detroit starter Jason Atkinson pitched effectively against the Joplin Fireballs at The Firepit. The left-hander led his team to a 7-3 win. Atkinson, now 2-2, was the winner. In 5 innings, he gave up 4 hits, while striking out 6, walking 3, and allowing 2 earned runs. Benny Hartley converted his 4th save in 5 tries.
It could have been a different outcome for Detroit, had it not been for Hoffman Faust, the slick-fielding center fielder . Faust contributed a 3-run home run in the top of the fifth inning to put Detroit up, 3-2.
"That's a solid team effort right there," said Faust. "Everyone's feeling pretty positive after that win."
Detroit has now won 3 in a row.
