Fireballs Take 10-2 Pounding
|
The Astoria Argonauts used an offensive barrage to beat the Joplin Fireballs, 10-2, at The Firepit. Alexis Lopez led the way, going 2-for-3 for Astoria. Ganya Lekov got the win, improving to 4-8. He held the Fireballs to 2 runs on 6 hits over 7 innings, while striking out 5 and walking 1. The slumping Fireballs have dropped 6 in a row.
Chipping in for Astoria was center fielder Tetsuo Chikuda. He stroked a grand slam home run in the top of the fourth. For the game, Chikuda was 1-3 with a home run and a walk. He drove in 4 runs and scored once.
"The Argonauts definitely had our number," said Joplin manager Nick Browning.
