Caterpillars Cut Down Argonauts, 10-4
|
The Peoria Caterpillars topped the Astoria Argonauts by the score of 10-4, with the biggest share of the credit going to designated hitter Lee Collier. Collier was 2-5 with a home run, while scoring 3 times for the Caterpillars on the day. Edolf Switzer earned the win for Peoria. He lasted 6 innings, allowing 4 earned runs on 3 hits, while striking out 2. With the win, he raised his record to 5-3. Oda Matsumura earned the save, his 1st, for the Caterpillars.
In the bottom of the sixth, Peoria shortstop Juan Hernández had a productive at-bat. With runners on 2nd and 3rd and two out, Hernández stroked a 3-run home run to left. It made the score 7-4, Peoria. For the game, he went 1-5 with a home run. He drove in 3 runs and scored once.
"We swung the bats pretty good throughout the lineup," said Peoria skipper Larry Pittman.
At 29-37, the Caterpillars find themselves in 5th place in the Blake Camden League B.J. Birdie League.
