The Bronx Bombers racked up a win at Bronx Ballpark, bumping off the Pasadena Bumblebees, 3-2. Al Bates, who started for Bronx, pitched effectively for his team. Bates got the win, improving to 5-6. He allowed 9 hits and walked 0 over 6 innings. Bates allowed 2 earned runs. Juan Manuel, summoned from the bullpen, notched his 15th save.
Bronx took the lead in the bottom of the sixth. With two out and runners on 1st and 3rd, Jorge Guerrero stroked a run-scoring single to make it 3-2, Bombers.
"We came out with the short end of the stick," said Pasadena skipper Hervé Barthélémy.
The 'W' lifts Bronx's record to 29-34.
