Mustangs Stay Hot, Beat Argonauts
|
Billings and Astoria took Mother Nature's best shot and still managed to complete their ballgame.
Billings beat Astoria at Cobb Field, escaping with a 7-6 win. The win in large part was due to catcher Mendel Israel, who earned player of the game honors. He was 3 for 4 with a double and 2 singles, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. The win was Akihiro Hamada's in relief. His record improves to 3-0. Le-song Kao took the loss for Astoria.
A defensive lapse proved costly in the contest. In the bottom of the fifth, with the game tied, Jung-tae Ko was at the plate when Billings scored 1 on an error. The miscue enabled the Mustangs to go in front, 7-6.
"I like our mindset right now," said Billings manager Keith Irwin.
The Mustangs, at 33-19, have now won 10 straight.
