The Minneapolis Freeze overcame a good performance by Joplin designated hitter Arthur Madgouran to knock off Joplin, 3-1, at The Firepit. Madgouran went 2 for 4 with a home run and a walk. Minneapolis reliever Xian Wang was credited with the win, to go to 2-0. Gerard Kotas took the loss for Joplin. Juan Martínez got the save, the 1st for him this season.
Rafael Carrión helped his team jump on top from the get-go. His first time up in the top of the first, he cranked a 2-run single to give Minneapolis a 2-0 lead.
"It was just a matter of executing," said Minneapolis manager Fernando Vargas.
The 'W' lifts Minneapolis's record to 28-25.
