Fireballs Shut Out Bumblebees
|
In a tight battle between the Joplin Fireballs and the Pasadena Bumblebees, pitcher Loeck Jurgens was in the zone. The Joplin right-hander was named the player of the game in Joplin's 1-0 win. Jurgens, the winner, moves to 2-5. He threw 6.2 innings of 2-hit ball, while fanning 7 and giving up 3 walks. Balamitra Sriramesh earned the save for Joplin, his 14th of the year.
Flexing his muscles for Joplin was Walter Steedman. The designated hitter had a solo home run in the top of the fifth for the Fireballs. It put his team ahead, 1-0, and sent them on to victory. For the game, Steedman was 1 for 4 with a home run.
"I had pretty much everything working," said Jurgens.
