In a low-scoring tilt between the Detroit Death Stars and the Reno Raiders, Kyoji Mizutani was the difference-maker. The Detroit right-hander earned player of the game honors in the 2-1 win. Carl Pollard, summoned from the bullpen, notched his 13th save. Detroit has an impressive 27-10 record.

Valentín Velasco had a productive at-bat for the Death Stars with two out in the bottom of the second. With runners on 1st and 3rd, the catcher hit a run-scoring single. The at-bat was important in the Detroit win.

"Good pitching stops good hitting," said Velasco. "And vice-versa."
