Caterpillars Knock Off Fireballs, 6-2

The Peoria Caterpillars got a strong performance from pitcher Tommy Bartlett, who stymied the Joplin offense en route to a 6-2 win at The Cave at Barton Springs. Bartlett picked up the win for Peoria, going 7.1 innings. He gave up 2 runs on 6 hits. He now sports a record of 2-3. With the loss, Joplin drops to 16-14.
The Caterpillars beat the Fireballs in part due to timely hitting. Case in point: the two-out triple Tom Hanson produced in the bottom of the fourth. Batting against Joplin pitcher Loeck Jurgens, Hanson gave his team a 4-2 lead when he hit a 2-run triple.
"We did a lot of things right," said Hanson.
