7 Straight Wins for Fireballs
|
Vancouver got a terrific performance from pitcher Pepe Trevino, but it wasn't enough to beat the Joplin Fireballs. Joplin won the Stanley Park contest, 2-1. Trevino was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He threw 8 innings of 3-hit ball. The winner was Joplin reliever Bob Brown, now 2-2. The loser was Pepe Trevino. Balamitra Sriramesh, summoned from the bullpen, notched his 8th save.
Both teams had trouble manufacturing runs. So, Tetsuzan Araki's at-bat in the top of the eighth was critical. With no one out, the Joplin designated hitter hit a solo home run, to give his team a 2-1 lead.
"Whenever we hold the other team to one run," said Joplin Fireballs manager Nick Browning, "I like our chances."
Joplin has a record of 13-9.
