The Minneapolis Freeze got a magnificent performance from pitcher Akinori Samurakami, who stifled the Joplin offense en route to a 3-1 Freeze win at The Ice Box. Getting the save was Iván Vázquez, his 2nd. The Fireballs fall to 6-9 and continue to sputter in the early going.
The outcome was still in doubt with two out in the top of the sixth inning, but Samurakami was able to pitch out of a jam. With runners on 1st and 3rd and Joplin trailing 2-1, Samurakami retired Tetsuzan Araki, who grounded out.
