Big Game from Rea Not Enough, Coal Miners Lose
|
Antioch designated hitter José Rea pounded Billings Mustangs pitchers at Cobb Field, but it was not enough to keep the Coal Miners from falling, 9-8. Rea was 3 for 4 with 2 home runs and a walk. He drove in 5 runs and scored twice. Billings reliever Diego Castro picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. Manuel Sánchez absorbed the loss. Winston Boer closed it out for his 2nd save.
Had it not been for Carlos Flores, the results might have been different. In the bottom of the seventh inning, when the Mustangs were trailing 8-6, Flores hit a 3-run home run for Billings, giving his team the lead.
"What a game," said Flores. "We needed every last run."
The Mustangs raised their record to 3-2.
