Joplin Fireballs starter Stephen Pearson turned in a sterling performance against the Philadelphia Freedom, leading his team to a slim 3-2 win. Joplin reliever Bill Barnes picked up the win, bumping his record to 1-0. Bob Archer was collared with the loss. Balamitra Sriramesh finished the game for Joplin and earned his 1st save.
Oliver Cooke made it 3-2, Joplin, in the top of the eighth when he hit a 2-run single. It was a big at-bat in the Fireballs win.
"Anytime we get it going, it puts a smile on my face," said Pearson.
With the win, Joplin is 1-1.
