Freeze Spoil Opening Day for Coal Miners, Their Fans
|
The Coal Mine was the site of the home opener for the Antioch Coal Miners. The contest featured a prime matchup between Rintaro Shinoda of the visiting Minneapolis Freeze and Carlos Estrada of the Coal Miners. The final score was 5-1, the Freeze getting the win. Earning player of the game honors was Rintaro Shinoda. Kenkichi Kodo closed the door for Minneapolis, picking up his 1st save of the year.
Going deep for Minneapolis was Dave Morton. The second baseman had a solo home run in the top of the first for the Freeze. It put his team ahead, 1-0, and sent them on to victory. For the game, Morton went 3 for 4 with a home run, 2 singles, and was hit by a pitch, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once.
"Throwing strikes was the main thing," Shinoda said.
