Spartans, Rice Pin Bad Loss on Horseman

The Des Moines Spartans beat the Amarillo Horseman, 13-1, at Spartans Park. The win was largely due to the efforts of first baseman Paul Rice, who captured player of the game honors. He went 3 for 5 with a home run and 2 singles. He scored 2 runs and drove in 4. Esteban Martínez was the winning pitcher. Over 6.1 innings, he allowed 1 run on 3 hits, with 3 walks and 4 strikeouts. Amarillo has now lost 4 in a row.
Paul Taylor contributed to the Des Moines win. The 23-year old second baseman stroked a bases-clearing double in the bottom of the third. For the game, Taylor was 1 for 4 with a double and a walk, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once.
