Irvin goes 3-for-3, Flash Move to 72-45
|
The Fairfield Flash clobbered the Acapulco Banditos, 12-3, at Durham Bulls Athletic Park today. Fairfield center fielder Monte Irvin was named player of the game for his productive day. He went 3-3 with 3 singles and 2 walks, while scoring 3 times. Ramón Gómez, the winner, improved to 15-6. He held Acapulco to 3 runs on 5 hits over 8 innings, while racking up 8 strikeouts. The first-place Flash, at 72-45, now lead their division by 6˝ games.
Trailing 2-1, Fairfield hopes soared in the bottom of the fourth inning when the 25-year old center fielder Kieran Hurd lifted a 2-2 fastball into the stands for a grand slam home run. The round-tripper put the Flash up, 5-2.
"Monte is still learning," said Fairfield Flash manager Gary Altman. "The sky's the limit for him."
