The So Cal Republic got a superb performance from pitcher Rick Hill, but the Omaha Titans still won the game, 5-4. Hill was named the player of the game despite the loss. He threw 7 innings of 6-hit ball. Omaha reliever David Lawson was credited with the win, to go to 1-0. Alim bin Umar took the loss for So Cal. Losses have been few and far between for the Republic, who are now 14-6.
Tofeeq Kuchis provided some late-game heroics for Omaha. In the bottom of the eighth inning, he hit a run-scoring single. It came on a 2-0 slider from Enrique Morales and propelled Omaha to a 5-4 lead.
"We need to string a few more wins like this one together," said Kuchis.
