A 4-RBI performance from the 22-year old left fielder Shunso Aoyama helped the Des Moines Spartans beat the Albuquerque Cacti, 8-4. The winner was Des Moines reliever Eliot Moreau, now 5-3. The loser was Shunji Kurota. Donald Hoover recorded the save for Des Moines, his 18th of the season.
Aoyama turned the game around in the bottom of the seventh. Facing Shunji Kurota, the Des Moines left fielder rapped a grand slam home run. Suddenly, the 4-3 Des Moines deficit turned into a 7-4 lead.
"The name of the game is scoring runs," Aoyama said. "We did a pretty good job of that today."
The Spartans saw their record improve to 55-40.
