Spartans Win in Glorious Fashion
The Spartans had to overcome a fine effort from Indian Wells pitcher Bart Pettifer to grab a narrow 4-3 win at Spartans Park. Pettifer went 6.1 innings and allowed no earned runs. Des Moines reliever Donald Hoover was credited with the win, to go to 2-2. Joe Huff took the loss for Indian Wells. The first-place Spartans have won 4 in a row.

The Spartans got a big at-bat from catcher Armando Sosa. For the game, Sosa was 1 for 1. In the bottom of the 11th, with the bases loaded, he stroked a run-scoring single. His 28th hit of the season gave Des Moines a 4-3 lead.

"Put a star next to this win," Sosa said.
