Aeropostales Suffer 5-2 Setback

The Des Moines Spartans got a stellar performance from pitcher Esteban Martínez, who handcuffed the Indian Wells offense en route to a 5-2 win at Spartans Park. Martínez, the winner, moves to 7-6. He threw 6 innings of 3-hit ball, while fanning 5 and giving up 6 walks. Donald Hoover nailed down his 16th save.
César Silva brought the hometown crowd to its feet with one out in the bottom of the first. That's when the 32-year old first baseman belted a 2-run home run. With the round-tripper, the Spartans took the lead, 2-0.
"It takes a lot of things to win a ballgame," said Des Moines manager Clement Snow. "It's usually not just one thing."
The Spartans bumped their record to 50-38 with this latest triumph.
