Giampaolo Marcovicci had a good game, but he could not keep the Coronado Phantoms from falling, 5-4, to the Albuquerque Cacti at Phantoms Field. The Coronado designated hitter was 3 for 4 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk, while scoring 3 times in the loss. Ding-bong Fong, the winner, improved to 1-1. He held the Phantoms to 3 runs on 4 hits over 5.1 innings, while striking out 2 and walking 3. The save went to Izumo Ikarashi, his 1st this season.
Albuquerque took the lead in the top of the fifth on a big hit from Matt Wilkerson. On a 1-0 slider from Mitsukuni Kudo, Wilkerson hit a 2-run single. That made it 4-3, Cacti. For the day, Wilkerson was 2 for 4 with a double. He drove in 2 runs.
"Both teams played hard," said Albuquerque manager Jorge Velásquez.
The Cacti sit in 4th place in the Kade Stenson League Swinging Friar Division with a record of 44-42.
