Des Moines got a terrific game from right fielder Bĺrd Tengesdal. It wasn't enough, though, to prevent the team from falling to Albuquerque, 4-3. Tengesdal was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He was 3-4 with a home run and 2 doubles, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. Darren de Koning, the winner, improved to 7-3. He held the Spartans to 3 runs on 5 hits over 5.1 innings, while striking out 6 and walking 3. Jim Unknown earned the save, his 1st, for the Cacti.

In the bottom of the fourth, Albuquerque center fielder Lee Jones had a productive at-bat. With the bases loaded and two out, Jones stroked a bases-clearing double to left. It made the score 4-1, Albuquerque. For the game, he went 1-3 with a double and a walk, while adding 3 RBI.
