Cats Come Up Short at Des Moines
The Des Moines Spartans eked out a 5-4 win versus the Fort Worth Cats at Spartans Park. Nobody did more than pitcher Tyler Wakeford, who captured player of the game honors. Wakeford went 8 innings to notch the win. He scattered 7 hits, walked 1, and struck out 3. His record improves to 4-1. The second-place Spartans now have a win-loss record of 25-21.

Pueblos Unidos, Mexico-born César Silva came through in the clutch. In the bottom of the first, with runners on 1st and 2nd and the Spartans trailing 1-0, he hit a 2-run triple to right-center to put Des Moines on top.

Silva told the Des Moines Today: "I don't know which I enjoy more -- being a ballplayer or the perks that come with being a ballplayer."
