Banditos Prevail, 3-1, Over Champaign
|
Dedicated fans at Underdogs Ballpark weathered the storm to watch their beloved Banditos beat the Chiefs.
In a well-pitched game between the Acapulco Banditos and the Champaign Chiefs, pitcher Denny Goodwin was superb. The Acapulco left-hander was named the player of the game in Acapulco's 3-1 win. Goodwin, the winner, moves to 1-2. He threw 7 innings of 3-hit ball, while fanning 7 and giving up 2 walks. The save went to Aubert Licci, his 6th this season.
Had Khai Sui not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Sui hit a 2-run double. That made the score 3-1, in favor of the Banditos.
"I still have a lot of confidence in this team," Acapulco manager Barry Bowman said afterward.
The 6th-place Banditos are now 18-23, the Chiefs 16-25.
