Des Moines got a first-rate effort from pitcher Hen-to Zhou, who frustrated Acapulco hitters en route to a 3-0 Spartans triumph at Underdogs Ballpark. Zhou, now 5-2, was the winner. In 5.1 innings, he gave up 4 hits, while striking out 5, walking 2, and allowing no earned runs. The win takes Des Moines to 17-15.

There were several reasons the Spartans beat the Banditos, but one factor was Cheng-qian Ling. In the top of the third, the Des Moines second baseman came to bat and hit a run-scoring single. It staked his team to a 1-0 lead.

"We didn't score," said losing manager Barry Bowman. "That was the problem."
