Arsenal Come Up Short at Des Moines
South Bay catcher Hisanobu Watanabe had a good game, even if his team did not. The Arsenal dropped a 4-3 decision to Des Moines at Spartans Park. Watanabe went 1 for 4 with a home run and a walk, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. The winner was Des Moines reliever Damian Xian, now 1-0. The loser was Arturo Vega. Keith Martin locked down his 5th save.

Cole Roberts had a big run-scoring double for the Spartans in the bottom of the fifth inning. With Des Moines trailing 3-1 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a fastball from Arturo Vega and stroked the double to right-center. It was his 6th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Spartans ahead, 3-2.

South Bay manager Garfield Christian said he was "mildly disappointed" with the loss. "We had our opportunities, but we didn't take advantage of them," he said.

The Arsenal fall to 10-15 and continue their lackluster start to the 2028 season.
