Wranglers Fall Short, 4-3, at Des Moines
|
The Des Moines Spartans did just enough to sneak past the Wichita Wranglers, 4-3, at Spartans Park. Des Moines pitcher Hen-to Zhou earned player of the game honors. Zhou, now 1-1, was the winner. In 7 innings, he gave up 9 hits, while striking out 9, walking 0, and allowing no earned runs. The save went to Enrique Castillo, his 1st this season.
Alfredo Álvarez's at-bat in the bottom of the eighth was significant for the Spartans. Coming to the plate with a runner on 2nd and Des Moines leading 3-0, the catcher hit a run-scoring single.
"I was a little disappointed," said Wichita manager Claudio Rojas. "We could've and should've scored more runs."
The Spartans, with just their 2nd win so far in 2028, have yet to catch fire.
