Big Day at the Plate for Chave Not Enough
|
Columbus left fielder Toby Chave had a good game in a losing cause. His team fell, 7-6, to Chicago at Central Park Downtown Stadium. Chave went 3-4 with 2 home runs and a walk. He scored 3 times and drove in 4. Ch'ang-chieh Tann picked up the save for Chicago, his 34th of the year. The Hitmen now have a mark of 58-64.
Had it not been for Tony Ward, the results might have been different. In the top of the eighth inning, when the Hitmen were trailing 6-3, Ward hit a grand slam home run for Chicago, giving his team the lead.
"We put it together today and came out with the win," Ward said in postgame remarks. "That's the main thing."
