Mafia Lose to Beavers, 5-2
|
With center fielder Wilson Flores leading the charge, the Portland Beavers defeated the New York Mafia, 5-2, at Waterfront Park. Flores went 2 for 3 with a home run and a double, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once. Daryl Harrison earned the win to go to 8-5. He allowed 1 earned run on 7 hits, with 1 walk and 7 strikeouts. Toyotomi Nakano was credited with the save for Portland, his 24th of the season.
Flores contributed a big hit, a 3-run home run, for Portland in the bottom of the second. With his team trailing 1-0, Flores took a fastball from Curt Rhodes and stroked the home run to left. His 6th home run of the season allowed the Beavers to leap in front, 3-1.
In comments to the Portland Daily, Flores admitted he's been told to improve his work habits. "But," he said, "I know when to take it to another gear."
Portland is 57-61 and New York, with the loss, 56-61.
