Stogies Prevail, 2-1, Over Brooklyn
|
Havana and Brooklyn played a hard-fought contest at Blue Ivy Stadium.
The Havana Stogies defeated the Brooklyn Black Knights, 2-1, in Roberto Clemente League action at Blue Ivy Stadium, with Havana pitcher Peter Miner named player of the game. Miner, now 5-8, was the winner. In 6 innings, he gave up 2 hits, while striking out 9, walking 2, and allowing 1 earned run.
The Stogies got a big at-bat from third baseman Oscar Jones. For the game, Jones went 1-4 with a home run. In the top of the fifth, with the bases empty, he stroked a solo home run. His 11th home run of the season gave Havana a 2-1 lead.
"I'll probably toss and turn tonight," Brooklyn manager Diego Aguirre said following the tough loss.
The Stogies bumped their record to 62-44 with this latest triumph.
