Manhattan Beach got a terrific performance from pitcher Tomás Bravo, but it wasn't enough to beat the Kansas City Tornadoes. Kansas City won the Debris Field contest, 4-1. Bravo was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He threw 8 innings of 5-hit ball. Reliever Loeck Jurgens picked up the win. His record improves to 2-2. Tomás Bravo took the loss. Michael Burton was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 29 of 31 save opportunities.
In the bottom of the 1st, the Tornadoes grabbed the lead when Todd McCarthy rapped a two-out home run. Kansas City was trailing 1-0, when McCarthy hit a 2-run home run off Tomás Bravo to put his team in front, 2-1.
"If you pitch well, you give yourself some opportunities," said Kansas City Tornadoes manager Alex Woods.
The third-place Tornadoes improved to 51-50.
