Hops Rally For Late Win Over Gamblers
|
San Diego beat Las Vegas at The Brew Stade, escaping with a 7-6 win. The win in large part was due to left fielder Ricardo Romo, who earned player of the game honors. He went 3 for 4 with a home run and a double. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2. Son Mai earned the save, his 10th. The Hops raised their record to 39-61.
The game was at a stalemate until second baseman Akira Kato came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Las Vegas pitcher Fred Butler, he hit a 3-1 knuckleball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting San Diego on top, 7-6.
"Honestly, I'm not frustrated," said Las Vegas manager Jesús Alfaro. "The effort was great."
