The Portland Beavers easily defeated the Maple Marauders, 12-4, at Legends Park, with second baseman Freddy Garza a main contributor to the win. He went 2 for 4 with a home run and a walk. He scored 3 times and drove in 4 for Portland. Alonso Esquivel, credited with the win, is now 2-3. He allowed no runs on no hits in 2.2 innings. With the win, Portland goes to 47-51, while the Marauders fall to 54-43.

Garza contributed when he hit a grand slam in the top of the eighth. Coming with one out and the bases loaded, the home run proved to be critical to helping Portland get the win.

In comments to the Portland Daily, Garza admitted he's been told to improve his work habits. "But," he said, "I know when to take it to another gear."
