Rock River Rats manager John Smiley knew it was a gamble to give the start to a rookie. It was a good gamble to take.

Pitching in front of a hostile crowd, 22-year-old right-hander Kang-il Hyong silenced the host Riverside Red Bulls at Red Bull Stadium today. The Rats shut out the Red Bulls by a final score of 2-0, to give the Rats a 4-2 advantage in the best-of-7 Double A World Series.

Rock River pinch hitter Yan-hao Lao had a game-changing at-bat in the top of the seventh. On a fastball from Ahilocana Keyush, he launched a 2-run home run. It gave Rock River a 2-0 lead.

"It's always fun to see the other guys getting frustrated, but the series isn't over and we've got to make sure to keep them on their heels," Rock River manager John Smiley said.
