Chippewa Wins Game 4 in Extras; On Verge of Single A World Series
|
The Chippewa River Chiefs went into extra innings against the Eugene Emeralds but ultimately moved to within one game of the Single A World Series today. The River Chiefs downed the Emeralds at Prefontaine Park by a score of 4-2. Chippewa left-hander Willi Kehr was named player of the game after a solid outing in which he threw 5 innings of shutout ball. The win gives the River Chiefs a 3-1 advantage in the best-of-7 Single A League Championship.
Runs were at a premium. So, Atsushi Sugita's at-bat with one out in the top of the 12th was crucial. The Chippewa center fielder hit a 2-run home run, to give his team a 4-2 lead.
"We aren't quitting," Eugene manager Tom Becker said. "Yeah, the odds are definitely in their favor, but they've got to earn it."
Game 5 is scheduled for Wednesday, October 4th, 2028 at Prefontaine Park. Slated to start are Tony López for Chippewa and Yasukazu Kouda for Eugene.
