River Chiefs Win Again, Extend Series Lead to 2-0
|
The Chippewa River Chiefs got a strong performance from pitcher Felipe Arreola, who stymied the visiting Eugene Emeralds en route to a 5-2 win in Game 2 of the Single A League Championship today. The Emeralds could never get a bead on the right-handed Arreola, who threw 6 innings of shutout ball to earn player of the game honors. The River Chiefs now hold a 2-0 in the best-of-7 series.
Chippewa first baseman Jang-lu Xiang made his contribution to the River Chiefs cause with a 2-run home run in the bottom of the third inning. For the day, Xiang went 2-2 with a home run and 2 walks. He drove in 2 runs and scored once.
"We're not going to sweep 'em," Arreola said in response to a question after the game. "Eugene is too good not to take a game somewhere."
The next game is set to be played on Monday, October 2nd, 2028 at Prefontaine Park. Slated to start are Tony López for the River Chiefs and Jim Unknown for the Emeralds.
