Home Field Advantage: Tovar, Chippewa Open Single A League Championship With Win
|
The Chippewa River Chiefs started the Single A League Championship in style today, downing the visiting Eugene Emeralds at The Reservation by a score of 9-1 to stake an early 1-0 lead in the best-of-7 series. River Chiefs third baseman Marcos Tovar was named player of the game after he went 2 for 4 with a home run and a double, while scoring 2 times and driving in 4.
Tovar had a clutch at-bat in the bottom of the first for the River Chiefs. Coming up with a runner on 1st and Chippewa trailing 1-0, he hit a 2-run home run.
"It all depends on which version of our team shows up," said Tovar. "When we put it all together, I think we're a great team."
Game 2 is scheduled for Saturday, September 30th, 2028 at The Reservation. Slated to start are Cai-fei Men for Eugene and Tony López for Chippewa.
