Knights, River Chiefs Play 10 to Settle Game 1, Sioux City Now Leads Series 1-0
|
One game in and the Single A World Series is already looking exhausting.
The Sioux City Knights and the Chippewa River Chiefs needed 10 innings to settle Game 1, with the Knights finally taking the 3-1 victory at The Reservation. Earning player of the game honors in the win was Sioux City starting pitcher Bobby Mannix, who threw 6 innings of 4-hit ball. The Knights and River Chiefs will play a best-of-7 series.
Zane Mogeni's at-bat with no one out in the top of the tenth was critical. The Sioux City center fielder hit a run-scoring single, to put his team on top, 2-1. Runs were at a premium and this one was huge.
"You never want to start a series with a loss, but I saw a lot of good things today," River Chiefs manager Bruce Leah said. "I'm not worrying. Yet."
Game 2 is set to be played on Monday, October 9th, 2028 at The Reservation. Slated to start are Barry Sherman for Sioux City and Tony López for Chippewa.
