Hayagawa Handcuffs Black Knights, Codebreakers Seize 1-0 Advantage in Divisional Round
|
One game in and the Divisional Round is already looking exhausting.
The Columbus Codebreakers and the Brooklyn Black Knights needed 10 innings to settle Game 1, with the Codebreakers finally taking the 3-2 victory at Blue Ivy Stadium. Earning player of the game honors in the win was Columbus starting pitcher Sotatsu Hayagawa, who threw 7 innings of 5-hit ball. The Codebreakers and Black Knights will play a best-of-7 series.
Runs were hard to come by in this one. Steve McGowan's at-bat with two out in the top of the tenth, therefore, was critical. The Columbus right fielder hit a run-scoring single, to put his team on top, 3-2.
"I hate extra innings," Columbus manager Julián Cancil said. "It makes everyone more tired, wears out the bullpen, wears out the fans. Even winning doesn't make me feel good about it."
Game 2 is scheduled for Sunday, October 8th, 2028 at Blue Ivy Stadium. The scheduled starters for the game are José Gallegos for Columbus and Jan Shirazi for Brooklyn.
