|
Baltimore had no answer for Victoria Vikings starter Maurice Bignold, who flummoxed Blue Claws hitters as the Vikings cruised to a 7-0 victory. The winning pitcher was Bignold, now 11-8. He tossed 6 innings of 1-hit ball, while walking 4 and fanning 7. Jean-François Blot was credited with the save for Victoria, his 7th of the season.
A key at-bat in the game came in the bottom of the third inning when the Vikings sent teenager Pedro Moreno to the plate against Blue Claws hurler Paolo Jens. With runners on 2nd and 3rd and a whole stadium watching, the kid controlled his nerves and delivered huge, hitting a home run off a first pitch fastball to score 3.
"Getting ahead of the hitters was the key," said Bignold.
Victoria now sits in 5th place in the Buck O'Neil League San Diego Chicken Division at 80-81.
