Eugene used a superb performance from starting pitcher Jake Adkins to down the Boise Bloodhounds, 7-1. Adkins, the winner, moves to 9-3. He threw 5.2 innings of 3-hit ball, while fanning 8 and giving up 1 walk. Eugene leads the Buck O'Neil League San Diego Chicken Division by 7½ games.
Trailing 1-0, Eugene hopes soared in the bottom of the second inning when the 19-year old first baseman Masayuki Kimura lifted a 1-0 fastball into the stands for a 2-run home run. The round-tripper put the Emeralds up, 2-1.
"It's easier to pitch when you get run support," said Adkins.
