Padilla, Emeralds Humble Jedi Knights

The Eugene Emeralds had no problem beating the New Orleans Jedi Knights, 12-2, at The Republic. José Padilla led the way. He went 3-5 with a home run and a double, while scoring 2 times and driving in 5 for Eugene. Eugene starter Jim Unknown was credited with the win after throwing 90 pitches over 5.1 innings. His record now stands at 1-0. The first-place Emeralds, at 91-63, now lead their division by 6 games.
There was more than one reason the Emeralds beat the Jedi Knights, but Padilla's big at-bat in the top of the first was an important factor. He staked his team to a 3-0 lead when he hit a bases-clearing double.
"They took us to the woodshed," said New Orleans manager Mathew Thomas.
