Victory Pushes Mustangs Record to 80-62
|
The San Angelo Mustangs got a strong performance from pitcher Nobuharu Kishita, who stymied the Kingwood offense en route to a 4-2 win at Heartland Kettlecorn Stadium. Kishita, the winner, moves to 4-4. He threw 5.1 innings of 3-hit ball, while fanning 7 and giving up 1 walk. José Santos was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 2 of 6 save opportunities.
Johnny Curtis brought the hometown crowd to its feet with one out in the bottom of the second. That's when the 19-year old first baseman belted a 2-run home run. With the round-tripper, the Mustangs took the lead, 3-1.
Kingwood manager Johan Gillberry said he was "mildly disappointed" with the loss. "We had our opportunities, but we didn't take advantage of them," he said.
San Angelo, at 80-62, occupies second place in the Buck O'Neil League San Diego Chicken Division.
