Gnats Walk Off with 9-8 Win
The inspired effort of Coney Island catcher Mike Ready was not enough to prevent a 9-8 loss to the Nichols Gnats. Ready went 1-3 with a home run, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once. Nichols reliever John Haines picked up the win, upping his record to 3-2. Iwane Kaneko shouldered the loss. With the win, the Gnats improved to 46-95.

When he came to bat in the bottom of the ninth, Mototsune Yamamoto had a chance to end it. Coney Island pitcher Iwane Kaneko had other ideas. But with two outs, Yamamoto drew a walk, driving in 1 run. The Gnats had the win.

"What a game," said Yamamoto. "We needed every last run."
