Cornhuskers Drop Predators, 5-2
|
The DeKalb Cornhuskers picked up a win at Earl Campbell Stadium, knocking off the Topeka Predators, 5-2. On the mound for DeKalb was right-hander Paul Hicks, who played a pivotal role in the win. In 6.2 innings, Hicks surrendered 4 hits, while striking out 5 and walking 2. He allowed no runs. Kevin Spurr notched his 14th save in 17 chances.
Ambhoruha Vijayanath took Miguel Hinojosa deep with one out in the bottom of the fourth. On a 2-2 fastball, Vijayanath drilled a 3-run home run to right-center. It was his 15th home run of the season and put DeKalb on top, 3-0.
"I'm proud of the boys for pulling through," said DeKalb Cornhuskers manager Shusaku Fukuda. "The wins don't come easy for this team, but everyone's got an extra jump in their step after a game like this."
DeKalb is now 57-98, while Topeka is 69-86.
