New York and Phoenix met at UFO Field in front of a lively crowd.
New York overcame a superlative game from Liu-liang Xi to beat Phoenix, 6-3. The Phoenix pitcher took player of the game honors in a losing cause. He threw 7 innings of shutout ball. Kalidas Keskar, credited with the win, is now 1-0. He allowed no runs on no hits in 0.1 innings.
Runs were scarce in this one. So, Jason Brown's at-bat in the top of the ninth was vitally important. With no one out, the New York designated hitter hit a 2-run double, to give his team a 3-1 lead.
"We'll relax tonight and get back after it tomorrow," Brown said after the game.
